You’re invited!!! A TASTE OF THE CARIBBEAN FESTIVAL 2012: A CARIBBEAN ESCAPE

22 May

Montreal (Quebec) –  You’re invited to the largest indoor food and cultural festival in Canada is coming to Old Montreal’s Marché Bonsecours. The 13th edition of A Taste of the Caribbean promises to whisk you away to the Islands, satisfying body and soul.

Nearly 50,000 people have joined founder Gemma Raeburn-Baynes for the celebration in the past 12 years. This year’s theme is “A Caribbean Escape” and the festival will feature over 75 dishes from 16 countries, including Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Haiti and Guadeloupe.

Dishes will be prepared by local and visiting executive chefs like US Virgin Islands native Leslie “Theo” Gumbs, a former Island Chef vsIron Chef winner. Guests are invited to enjoy musical and dance performances, sample award-winning rums and browse through the Marketplace. Chef Cherrie Jones, also known as Miss Grenada 2011-2012, will serve her native dishes, marrying fine cuisine and exquisite beauty. Chef Rebecca Nedd of Tobago will delight us with her award winning cuisine from her little fishing village in Tobago.

Making A Taste of the Caribbean 2012 unique this year will be the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s Independence, marked by a fashion show sponsored by the Jamaica Tourist Board, the High Commissioner for Jamaica and The Honorary Consul for Jamaica in Montreal.

The Republic of Trinidad & Tobago is also celebrating their 50th anniversary and will celebrate with a “Big Trini Lime” (grand Trinidadian party) with Steelband, Calypso and Mas !

A Taste of the Caribbean is also proud to announce that Grenada Spicemas Carnival will do its Montreal Launch at the Festival, adding more fuel to the already fire.  Think of an all-day jam with Grenadian Calypsonians, Grenadian Food and Grenadian Shortknee.

The all-day event will be a truly extraordinary experience, beginning for VIPs at 12:30 p.m. with sampling of fine Caribbean rums. The general public is invited to join as of 2 p.m. for the all-you-can-eat tasting experience and performances that will last well into the evening.

Escape to the Caribbean without leaving Montreal and experience the warmth of the people, delicious cuisine, and arts and culture, all under one roof.

Tickets are available online at http://www.atasteofthecaribbean.ca, by calling 514 620- 6612 or  www.tixpro.com.
